Publication Studio prints and binds books on demand, creating original work with artists and writers we admire. We are part of an international network of Publication Studios in other cities including Edmonton, Guelph, San Francisco, Glasgow, Rotterdam, Hong Kong, Paris, Montevideo, and Sao Paolo. Publication Studio is a laboratory for publication in its fullest sense—not just the production of books, but the production of a public.
Publication Studio Vancouver has two special interests: publishing books by artists, and revisiting works that are in the public domain, abandoned, or that are public documents which are not easily available in print.
We acknowledge that we are located on the unceded, traditional and ancestral xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) territories. “Unceded” means that the presence of settler roads, mines, pipelines, cities, and our studio on this land is illegitimate even by the legal standards of the settler state. From 2010 to late 2013, we were located in a shared studio in an industrial area; from 2013 to summer 2016, we had a storefront at 222 West Georgia St.; from 2016 to 2018, we shared space with Selectors’ Records at the corner of Pender and Carrall streets; we had a residency space at the Burrard Civic Marina between November 2018 and October 2019; now we’re in a downtown office in Vancouver’s Duncan Building.
