Readings and Book Launch for BARTLEBY REVIEW: 21–40
Saturday, October 17th, 7pm
Publication Studio Vancouver, 222 E Georgia St
Publication Studio Vancouver presents the launch of BARTLEBY REVIEW: 21–40, a compilation of the last twenty issues of Vancouver’s free and occasional leaflet of criticism and other writing. Featuring an introduction by Peter Gazendam and a new design by Jaz Halloran. Please join us at the launch for readings by past contributors, Kara Hansen and Ingrid Olauson.
BARTLEBY publishes writing that might otherwise be lost to the pruned paradigm. Melville’s scrivener usually comes to mind too, but we practice his mantra—”I would prefer not to”—only notionally, although BARTLEBY does exercise a willful refrain from certain expectations of art criticism and publishing which may hinder the publication of, or distract from, writing simply as autonomous works of inquiry. These aspects are further touched upon in the first anthology, BARTLEBY REVIEW: 1–20 (Publication Studio Vancouver, 2014)
This event is presented by BARTLEBY REVIEW and Publication Studio Vancouver as part of the Vancouver Art/Book Fair’s open-source event series Artists’ Books Week. Recent issues of BARTLEBY REVIEW are hosted in The Garden: A Moniker Press and Brandon Cotter reading room installation at the Vancouver Art Gallery during the VA/BF.
